Beware of hackers

Coimbatore, Nov 12: Online banking facility has definitely made our day-to-day life much easier but  life is not so hunky-dory all the time.  Arumugam, an industralist from NGGO Colony here, has learnt it in a hard way.

He has alleged that Rs.12.75 lakhs  has been siphoned off  from his savings account by some miscreants hacking his banking details and account number.

A couple of months ago, Arumugam had lodged a complaint with  his cellular operator regarding his non-operational sim card. On verification, it was found that the same number was used by 'somebody else'.

It was then Arumugam found that  his missing Rs. 12.75 lakh has been transfered from his account to someother bank account in Delhi and Lucknow. The miscreant who had misused his number has made use of the banking details of Arumugam that was stored in the sim card and hacked his bank account. Later, it came to light that the miscreants have transferred the funds in a trickle  to avoid suspicion.

A case in this regard has been lodged with the cyber crime branch.

The incident has certainly alarmed the people  and made them cautious about their banking details and also to reconsider  the decision of storing all critical information like banking details, locker password, personal photos and more in sim/memory cards.
