Infusing entrepreneurship through theatre

Coimbatore, Nov.9: Tracing back to one of the oldest art forms that had helped propagate various movements in the past, Forge Accelerator, Coimbatore-based technology business incubator, has used theatre as a tool to create “actionable awareness” among potential entrepreneurs.

Held as a part of the National Entrepreneurs' Day celebrations, the session titled ‘Start-up Theatre’ saw students from various colleges collaborate with entrepreneurs and experts to stage concept-based plays that were themed around innovation and entrepreneurship at Forge Factory in the city here on Thursday.

Terming drama as the easiest and impactful way of communication, B.L.Lakshmi Meera, Programme Director at Forge Accelerator, said that theatre would help students empathise with an entrepreneur and an entrepreneurial journey.

“We have given the students various concepts like Co-creation, affordable loss, luck vs method and control vs predict to theme their plays on. Since the concepts revolve around entrepreneurship, it would be helpful for them to bring out all the factors in an entrepreneurial journey,” she told SimpliCity.

U. Mouneish, one of the students from Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) who participated in the event said that the experience has not only helped them bring out their talents but also to assess their levels. “This experience has provided us with the necessary exposure to the entire system,” he added.

S. Sharumathi, another student from KCT, also said that the platform has helped them interact with professionals and also share their ideas. “Anyway, we will be working with a team when we pass out of college. Since the activity is team-based, it would be the apt stepping-stone,” she said.

The students themselves scripted, directed and enacted the plays and a total of 35 students participated in the theatre session.

Later in the day, various experts also interacted with nearly 120 students.
