Doubts galore, but Centre wants State’s involvement in GST

Coimbatore, Nov 07: With various stakeholders constantly criticising the Centre for implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the Central Government wants to pull in the State Government to flush out the dilemma surrounding the tax reform.

Talking at an interactive session on the current challenges and solutions in GST at the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry  office here on Tuesday Vanathi Srinivasan, the State Vice President of the ruling BJP,  has said that the stakeholders should also frequently interact with the State about issues in GST.

“Industries should also make representations to the State Government because they play a major role in the implementation of GST. If there is proper communication between the State and industry, it would be easier for the Centre to help,“ she said.

Accepting that the industry was facing some practical difficulties because of GST, she claimed that the Centre would always give solutions if the issues are channelled through the representations.

C.P. Rao, Principal Chief Commissioner of GST,  said that the Centre was involved in regular interactions with the public. “We are trying to clear the doubts through the GST Seva Kendras. The public should also complain if people are trying to cheat them in the name of GST,“ he opined.

He further added that the Centre was also flexible enough to reduce tax in industries like Textiles. “We are also checking to make amendments in certain areas and are always ready to consider all the representations,“ said the commissioner.

Earlier  G.Karthikeyan, President of the Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), said that certain issues have impacted  Laws and Procedures, Inbuilt Tax Credit, controlling the supplies and Working Capital Management because of GST.
