Rain brings relief from heat

Rains that lashed the city and suburbs on Sunday brought in the much required relief from the hot spell caused by soaring mercury levels.

Coimbatore district in the last 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Monday received 92.60 mm rainfall and an average of 7.72 mm.

Sharp and intermitted showers were reported from many parts of the Nilgiris and suburbs of Coimbatore and across the district.

Rain resulted in road users being caught unawares, besides inundation in some pockets.

Uprooting of trees and disruption in power supply was also reported in some areas, keeping the Tangedco personnel on their toes throughout the day.

Rainfall in mm:

Coimbatore recorded the highest of 17.60 mm rainfall at airport, followed by 17.20 in Sulur, 14.20 at TNAU, 12 in Pollachi, Coimbatore South - 3.5, Mettupalayam and Chinnakallar - 3.2 each, 3 at Periyanaickenpalayam, 2.4 at Valparai taluk and 1.8 at Valparai PAP.
