Industries go without power in Coimbatore

Rain in different parts of the district on Sunday evening certainly brought down the temperature and gave a relief to the residents. However, several areas went without power supply for more than an hour.

In the last three days, half an hour to one hour power cut was reported from several localities. It looks like there is shortage in availability. It is not just Sunday, when there were rains, even on Monday many places experienced power cut, says J. James, president of Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Enterprises.

In a suburb area, on Sunday, there was no power from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., said a micro unit owner.

Several micro and small-scale entrepreneurs in the city did not operate the units on Sunday. However, on Monday there were reports of half an hour to one power supply failure in many areas, the unit owner said. “We do not know power cuts are coming back. We need to wait and see for a couple of days,” he added.

According to an official of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, power failure supply reported in several places on Sunday was mainly because of heavy rains. Otherwise, there is no power cut in the district. Breakdowns were reported in nearly 120 feeders and 27 electricity poles were affected in the rains on Sunday. “We had attended to about 100 feeders in one hour to one-and-a-half hours. The rest would have taken time because of lack of easy accessibility to the location, tree fall, pole damage, etc. The field-level personnel would not have been able to take up these works at late evening hours,” the official said.
