Coimbatore, Nov 4: Personnel of the Coimbatore Range of Coimbatore Forest Division were trying to guide an elephant that got stranded near a muddy checkdam at Veerapandi Kuttai, near Thadagam here, today.
According to sources, the tusker (aged between 15 and 20) had come to the checkdam from the nearby reserve forest to drink water. While the local people claimed that it had come with another sub-adult elephant, a huge crowd had gathered to watch the elephant in the early hours of the day. However, there was only one elephant in the vicinity.

The elephant has refused to move away from the spot because of the crowd and since the spot was slushy, it had stopped on the banks of the checkdam refusing to move through the muddy water.
A rescue team comprising forest watchers, Guards and Anti-Poaching Watchers was immediately sent to the spot and they attempted to guide the animal back into the forest.
