A spotted deer was found dead in a private land near Orange Grove Road in Nilgiri North Forest Division at Conoor Range on Monday around 11.30 a.m.
On receiving information, forest officials rushed to the spot and conducted enquiries with local people and subsequently it was taken to a veterinary hospital for post-mortem.
The deer is suspected to be six years old and had strayed into the area from Conoor Forest Range.
According to officials, the deer might have died due to some carnivore attack and the animal must have left the deer there afterwards.
