Coimbatore, Nov. 3: Ahead of MGR centenary celebration scheduled to be celebrated here on December 3, District Collector T.N. Hariharan convened a meeting with the officials of various departments today, to review the arrangements.

"Among the districts in this region, Coimbatore is regarded to be one of the most important destinations, therefore the MGR Centenary function will be celebrated here in a grand manner. Hence, 15 days prior to the function, cultural events including oratorical, essay writing, painting, sports competition for students studying in Government and Corporation Primary schools will commence", a press statement from the Collectorate said.

The Collector also passed directives to the officials to go ahead with the works assigned to them and also proposed ideas for smooth conduct of the event. As a large number of people are expected to attend the centenary celebration, the department heads were asked to ensure availability of basic amenities for the public and to keep a tight vigil on the security arrangements at the venue, the statement said.
P. Moorthy, Superintendent of Police, Durai K. Ravichandran, District Revenue Officer, Ruban Sankar Raj, Project Director, and District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), were present at the review meet.
