Student’s novel protest pays, college issues TC

Coimbatore, Nov 2 : In a novel protest, Ashok, a diploma student of Hindusthan Polytechnic College, sought alms in front of the Collectorate to pay the 'hiked' fee that was being charged to get his transfer certificate.

Alleging that the college administration was demanding high fees for granting him transfer certificate, Ashok said that the students did not have a clue about the hike.  Only when he went to request for the issue of transfer certificate he came to know about the proposed new fee of Rs. 70,000, which was way above the fee structure proposed by the government.

Ashok claimed that due to this delay in sorting out the issue he was unable to apply for higher education and complaints made regarding this to the District Administration officials and Adi Dravidar Welfare Association had gone in vain.

"Hence, I have decided to seek alms from the public in front of the District Collectorate to pay the fee of Rs. 70,000 to get my transfer certificate" Ashok lamented.

Ashok hung a placard around his neck with the college name and the issue in brief. Undoubtedly, his novel way of protest garnered the attention of the people at the Collectorate.  He was was arrested by the Race Course Police for causing public disturbance.

Later, the college authorities issued the TC to Ashok without extra fee.
