Coimbatore, Nov 2: In a bid to create awareness to preserve water bodies in this region, a marathon named 'Noyyal Marathon 2017' was conducted on October 29, to preserve the heritage of Noyyal river which is regarded to be a pivotal water body originating from Coimbatore.
Around 1000 volunteers took part in the "half" marathon which was flagged off at Saravanampatti.
“In recent times, events like walkathons and marathons are gaining momentum, as more people are willing to volunteer for a cause. The energy, enthusiasm and sporting spirit exhibited by the participants who are of different age groups, is highly appreciable,” said Dr. David V. Rajan, Founder, Ortho One Hospital, whose institution provided medical assistance for the runners. A preliminary physical fitness evaluation was carried out by the hospital for all marathon participants.
