Coimbatore, Oct 31: Roads under the railroad bridges that are not properly maintained have become dangerous to motorists. Especially during heavy rains, traffic is seriously affected due to the water which stagnates in these areas.
The railway bridge, located near Shoba nagar (Ward No. 40) near Avarampalayam, creates difficulty for motorists and pedestrians. People in the area complain that the road is so small that it can accommodate only one four-wheeler to pass at a time.

'Two wheelers and four wheelers use this road mostly to reach Sathy road from Avarampalaym. Furthermore, heavy vehicles such as lorries make use of this road due to the presence of small-scale industries, which results in damage to the road faster. Due to the increasing influx of vehicles on a daily basis, the houses nearby are faced with dust and pollution regularly. Since the motorists are in a hurry to cross the railway bridge, it creates traffic snarls frequently in the area. As fights break out between the motorists, the whole scene looks like warfare, laments Mr.K. Maduresan, a resident in the area.

The Railway bridge constructed at Iteri Road (Ward 61) in Ondiputhur area is meant for use by two-wheelers. But last week's rains have flooded the lower portion of the bridge and this has resulted in the area becoming just one-way.

Two private schools are functioning on Pattinam Ittari Road. All vehicles, including school vehicles, cross the railway bridge using this road to reach Ondiputhur. In this case, the traffic congestion has increased as a result of the rainwater. There are high chances of accidents to occur and the corporation has to take quick measures to resolve this situation says, Mr Raja, an auto-driver in the area.
In addition, the roads in the lower part of the main railway bridges in the city of Coimbatore are the worst. It is difficult to use these roads and traffic gets affected due to the stagnant water caused by rains.
