Leaky pipe playing hide and seek with officials

Coimbatore, October 31st: Officials at the Public Works department are in trouble as a leaky drinking water pipe has been giving some torrid time for them near Madukkarai here.

Even after repeated attempts, the officials were not able to fix the pipeline as the pipe bursts every now and then.

According to the local residents, the pipe runs under the ground along the Quarry office bus stand in Madukkarai on the Palakkad Main Road. It carries water from Athikadavu water distribution tank to sub tanks in Gandhinagar North and Arivoli Nagar near Mile Kal. More than five hundred families receive water through the pipe.

During the midweek of October, the pipe had started leaking and water was constantly stagnating in the area. The supply of water also declined because of water leakage and they had complained to the Panchayat officials of Madukkarai.

“Though they fixed the pipe immediately, the water started leaking again. Again the people started complaining and again they fixed it,” said a S.Navin, a local.

He further added that this has been happening at least three times as the pipe constantly leaked even after repeated attempts to repair it.

“Since the leakage is very close to the bus stand, people find it difficult to walk past the area and are forced to stand too close to the Road. The officials also cannot work freely with the pipe coming under a State Highway,” added another local man.
