Indian Gaur attacks youth

P. Arunpandian (23) of Vani Vilas in Banahatti that comes under Melur section in Coonoor range was severely injured after he was attacked by an Indian Gaur late in the evening on Saturday.

Coonoor Forest Ranger C. Siva said that he was new to the place and stayed with his grandparents in a house for tea estate labourers.

The ranger said that the youth was unaware of the movement of wild animals in that locality in the dark and went to bushes a few meters away from the quarters as there was no proper toilet facility there.

“The animal standing amidst bushes attacked him,” he added.

Arunpandian was taken to the Coonoor Government Hospital where he was provided first aid and taken to Government Hospital in Udhagamandalam, from where he was referred to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

Out of danger

Forest personnel said that he was in the intensive care unit till Sunday evening and that he was out of danger.
