College students arrested for stealing bikes of fellow students

Three engineering college students of a private college at Karunya Nagar were arrested by the Karunya Nagar Police on Saturday for their alleged role in the theft of two bikes from fellow students, earlier last week. Preliminary inquiries by the police revealed that the trio stole the bikes to sell it and spend money.

The accused have been identified as D. Sam (22) of Periyakulam, a third-year student, and his friends J. Jo Aknal (22) of Krishnagiri and N. Daney Nelson (22) of Udumalpet who are in their final year. While Sam stays in a private accommodation outside the institution, the other two were hostilities.

Investigating officer of the case D. Paul Alexander said that the institution does not allow vehicles of persons other than hostilities inside the premises.

As the victims, P. Akshe and his friend, had to take up the semester examinations on Monday morning, they left their bikes under a tree near a shop outside the college on Coimbatore - Siruvani Road, late in the night on May 1st. “The next day after the exams they found their bikes missing,” Mr. Alexander said.

Suspicion narrowed down on the trio as they were spotted at the place from where those two bikes were stolen and during inquiry they reportedly admitted the crime. The bikes were recovered from the accused. They were booked under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code, arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
