Kumar, a power-loom owner from Karumathampatti along with his 7-year-old son, attempted self immolation at the SP Office here today as his complaint was not acted upon by the police.

Three years ago, Kumar had lent Rs.10 lakhs to Mohankumar, a jeweller in the same area. Kumar complains that Mohankumar has failed to repay the amount and that all his attempts to collect the money from him turned futile. Hence, as a last resort, he had approached the SP's Office.
Sources say, the police had refused to take his complaint seriously thinking he was in an inebriated state. Hence, Kumar, who became distraught, poured kerosene over his 7-year-old son and himself and set fire to themselves.
Fortunately, a video journalist of a private television channel who was there at the SP Office thwarted the immolation attempt by snatching the match box away from him.

The police admitted Kumar and his son to CMCH for first aid.
