Coimbatore, Oct. 27 : If police stations refused to accept complaints against usury, the complainant can lodge a complaint directly with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), according to Mr.P.Moorthy, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore.
Following the Tirunelveli incident, wherein a family of four members immolated themselves alleging harassment by usurious moneylenders the state government had ordered district collectors and the police to take immediate action in such cases.
Talking to SimpliCity, Mr.P.Murthy pointed out that the country was facing the usury harassment problems for the past 1500 years. "History tells us about many families who have suffered a lot due to usury," he added.
“It is worrying that this issue still continues to fester. People who suffer from ‘usury harassment can boldly report to the nearby police stations. All police stations have been instructed to take immediate action about such complaints. Failing which the complainant can lodge a complaint directly with the DSP,” he said.
Coimbatore district is divided into five subdivisions namely Perur, Periyanankanpalayam, Karumathampatti, Valparai and Pollachi. DSPs allotted to these subdivisions can accept complaints directly. Otherwise, they can call Superintendent of Police Office on 0422-2300600.
