Minister for Animal Husbandry, Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, today opened the sluice gates of Thirumoorthy dam to release the water for irrigating 2,786 acres in Tirupur district.

Farmers in Tirupur district had recently requested the State Government to release the water following the onset of North East Monsoon. Accordingly, the state government directed the district administration to release water.

It has been decided to discharge 84 million cubic feet of water over 220 days through the Thali canal. The inflow was the reservoir is 788 cusecs and The discharge from the reservoir is 84 cusecs. The water level in the dam is 41.56 feet against the total of 60 feet.
On this occasion C.Mahendran, Member of Parliament, Pollachi, and Tirupur District Collector K.S. Palanisamy were present.
