The KMCH has successfully performed a “Robotic Ureteric Reimplantation” surgery on a 8-year-old boy who was suffering from a condition called 'congenital obstructive megaureter'.
According to a press release from the hospital, this is the first time such a surgery has been performed in Tamil Nadu.

The release states that "The boy has been suffering from a blockage at the junction of the ureter (tube carrying urine from kidney). The problem was corrected through a robotic surgery by Dr. Naga Kumaran, Consultant Pediatric Surgeon, and by Dr.N.Vinod Kumar, Anaesthesiologist. This is the very first time in Western Tamil Nadu, that such a surgery has been performed on a child. The boy has recovered well".
Dr.Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman of KMCH group of hospitals, said that the addition of Robotics (Da Vinci) system has been a boon. "The benefits can also be extended to children for selected operations like pyeloplasty, achalasia cardia, choledochal cyst and other pelvic operations", he said.
