Tamil Nadu ICSE topper gives all the credit to her mother

Kailaeshwari N could not have been happier to have opted for the ICSE board when she learned that she had topped the board exam for Class 10 in Tamil Nadu this year.

A student of Stanes School, Kailaeshwari had switched from the Samacheer Kalvi syllabus, which is the Tamil Nadu state board syllabus, to ICSE in Class 7. "I was not challenged by the state syllabus. I found that it did not cover many essential topics when compared to the ICSE syllabus. So I decided to switch to ICSE in Class 7," she said.

Another reason why the 15-year-old switched to the ICSE stream was the rote learning system prevailing in state board schools. ICSE syllabus also covers the basics of medicine, which she found appealing.

Kailaeshwari has scored centum in history, geography and environmental application that she chose as her subject in the third group. She fell short by one mark in math and science. The MBBS aspirant attributes her success to her mother, Aarthi Nandakumar. "My mother is very fond of science and I've taken after her. She was able to help clear my doubts," she said. Kailaeshwari is also grateful to her teachers for their support.

The topper plans to switch boards again, this time opting for the CBSE system to complete her high school. "I want to become a doctor. The recent Supreme Court ruling on the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), should help me perform better in the exam," she said.
