The staff of the IDBI Bank staged a demonstration on Tuesday in front of the bank branch on the Balasundaram Road pressing a charter of demands including implementation of the 10th bilateral agreement. They have a two-day agitation programme.
The bank has 9 branches in Coimbatore.
Their demands include filing up of vacancies and confiscation of immovable assets of the defaulters.
The General secretary of the Coimbatore District Bank Employees' Federation, Meenashisundaram, alleged that though the bilateral agreement had been implemented in all the banks by May 2015 itself, the IDBI Bank had been indifferent to this. "This has hurt the employees very badly". Last financial year, the bank suffered a loss of Rs.5,158 crores. But the confiscated property from defaulters worked out to only Rs.25 crores. As 300 of the employees of the 9 bank branches are on strike here, it might hit the transactions to an extent of Rs.100 crores.
