Irked by the remarks of BJP’s National Secretary H.Raja on actor Vijay, members of various outfits staged a demonstration in Pollachi hitting the effigy of the BJP leader with slippers here on Monday.
Claiming that the leader had tried to instigate a communal violence through his remarks, they staged demonstration agitation opposite to the BSNL office here . It was unbecoming of such a big leader to make such communal remarks.
As many as 50 members from Suyamariyathai Samadharma Iyakkam wing of the Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam, Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, Kamal Rasigar Mandram and Students Federation of Tamil Nadu participated in the protest and 18 members were detained and later released.
It may be noted that Raja had used Vijay’s Christian name (Joseph Vijay) implying that the actor had criticised Modi’s Government since he was a Christian. He had criticised the Centre’s pet project GST in his movie, which was opposed by the BJP.
