In an attempt to centralise functioning, the Central Government has decided to shift Customs office from Coimbatore to Trichy from November 1.
Briefing media here on Monday, Commissioner of Coimbatore Customs C.G.Srinivasarao said that the office in Coimbatore would function only till October 31.
“The current office would continue to look after the Central Excise and GST sections,” he added.
The decision has been made since the State Government has decided to look after GST sector.
According to sources, upto 30 staff from the current office would function from Coimbatore for a few months. While field staff would be posted here, the entire control of the department would be in Trichy, which might make things a little difficult for the staff in case of seizures.
