Petitioners, who come to the Coimbatore Collectorate to give petitions on Mondays, find it difficult to park their vehicles as no specific parking place is allotted for them. They have requested the Police and District administration to regulate the parking place.
Mondays have been declared as ‘Grievance days’ and people from various places in the district including Singanallur, Mettupalayam, GN Mills, Thondamuthur and other rural and urban areas come to Coimbatore Collectorate to hand over their petitions to the District Collector on those days. Nearly 400 people visit the office every Monday, but there is no area specified for parking their vehicles.
A petitioner complained, “Every Monday, I am facing this trouble. The parking area is always full, inside and outside the Collector's office. It is very difficult to park the vehicle. Police should take action and improve the situation.”
Police personnel are deployed to regulate the vehicles, but there has been no improvement. According to the police, the petitioners are refusing to park the vehicles at the allotted place outside the Collectorate. Most of the parking area is occupied by the Collectorate staff and so, very little space is left for the public to park their vehicles.
C.Arokiyaraj, an activist, said, “District administration should regulate and allot the parking place for petitioners. Many of the vehicles seized by police in connection with various crimes are parked inside the Collectorate and are occupying maximum parking place. Police should dispose of these vehicles and make space for the petitioners’ vehicles.”
Nearly a thousand vehicles are passing through this road that connects the Railway station and Avinashi road and the motorists undergo a lot of suffering due to heavy traffic. A senior police officer said, “steps are taken regularly to control the traffic. Only the district administration has the authority to handle this issue. We have requested them to create a parking place separately for petitioners”.
