In Maoist bastion, voters reassured by security forces

To assure the voters that it was safe to come out to the polling stations and cast their votes without fear, more than 200 paramilitary force personnel and rural police personnel conducted a flag march past at Anaikatti, located on the Tamil Nadu -Kerala state border on Friday evening.

Rural police decided to deploy the paramilitary forces in the bordering check post areas to prevent Maoist movements in Anaikatti and a few other areas. A flag march past was also conducted at Sulur and Pollachi town.

"We have five critical polling stations and a few more vulnerable polling stations in the six assembly constituencies. So, we conducted the flag march past in the vulnerable areas because it would build confidence among the voters," said R V Ramya Bharati, superintendent of police, Coimbatore.

She added that the rural areas have more than 10 check posts in the Tamil Nadu -Kerala borders. "We would deploy the paramilitary forces in the check posts round the clock. They will conduct vehicle checks and they are well-equipped to tackle any kind of situation," said Ramya Bharati.
