Marginal decline in liquor sales on Deepavali day

The sale of liquor at the outlets of the TASMAC in Coimbatore district recorded a minor decline on the recent Deepavali day compared to last year.

According to official sources, while the sale on Oct 18 this year was to the tune of Rs 11.85 crores, it is 0.5% less than that of last Deepavali.

As many as 137 TASMAC outlets are functioning in the district. The average daily sales used to be around Rs 6 crores at these outlets. However, this would go up substantially on festive days like Deepavali and Pongal and also New Year Day.

The TASMAC officials expected that the sales would be more than Rs.12 crores this Deepavali But it was only 11.85 crores, six lakhs less than that of last year.

The reasons cited for the marginal decline are the hike in prices of liquor and the reduction in the number of TASMAC outlets.
