Martyrs' Day observed

The police personnel of Coimbatore district today observed Martyrs' Day to pay homage to 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel who were martyred in an attack by the Chinese army on Oct 21, 1954.



Since Oct 21, 1959, this day is being observed as the Martyrs' Day by the police personnel all over the country.

At the Police Grounds at Pappanaickenpalayam here, the Commissioner of Police Amalraj led the police personnel in paying homage to the martyrs. Apart from laying a wreath at the memorial pillar, they were given a gun salute by firing 72 rounds. Those who took part included Deputy Commissioner of Police Lakshmi Perumal and District Superintendent of Police, Moorthy.
