Theft at election official’s house in Coimbatore

Unidentified persons decamped with 14 sovereigns gold jewellery from the house of an Income Tax (IT) department official G. Ramesh (51) of Lakshmi Nagar in Chinthamani Pudur near Sulur, who is the assistant expenditure observer of Sulur Assembly segment.

The Sulur police said that that Ramesh's wife Shanthi worked as a stenographer in the First Additional District Judge court in Coimbatore and went to work in the morning.

It is learnt Ramesh locked the house and went to work around noon. On returning late in the evening, he saw the back door of the house broken open.

The door of the wooden almirah was also broken and the said valuables missing.

A case was registered under Sections 454 (trespassing to commit an offence) and 380 (theft in a dwelling place), of the Indian Penal Code. A finger print expert and the police dog squad were also pressed into service.

Thefts

In two thefts at Irugur and Kovaipudur on Wednesday, a total of 13.5 sovereigns gold jewellery was stolen.

The house of N. Thangavel (49) of Indira Nagar in Irugur was burgled when the occupants had gone out on Wednesday. The Singanallur police were investigating the incident.

In the other incident, R. Rukmani of Rangappa Gounder Colony in Kovaipudur locked the house on Tuesday and was attending her son who was hospitalised. On returning home on Wednesday, she saw the door damaged and 10 sovereigns gold jewellery missing. The Kuniyamuthur police were investigating the case.

Robbed

Seventy-five-year-old R. Saraswathi of Udhaya Nagar near Ganapathy was robbed off her gold chain when she was standing on the road near her house during the late hours of Wednesday. The Peelamedu police said that two unidentified persons came on a bike, snatched her chain and fled the place.
