Coimbatore Sanitary workers go on a strike

The sanitary workers of the Coimbatore Corporation have gone on a strike demanding proper bonus for 2016-17, and their "just" salary. Contract workers, drivers and cleaners belonging to organisations such as Coimbatore Labour Union, Tamilnadu Annal Ambedkar Health and Hygiene & General Workers Union and Janasakthi Mazdoor Sabha have participated in this strike.

President of Janasakthi Mazdoor Sabha said, “We have gone on a strike demanding proper bonus and legitimate salary. This is not a sudden decision. Several requests have been made to set right the problems regarding salary but so far, no proper reply has been received. Just Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 have been given as bonus. This is not the right bonus. The strike will continue till the rightful amount is granted.”

The roads of the city are overflowing with garbage as Deepavali is just over. The strike by the sanitary workers at this time may delay the removal of garbage.
