Note from the Editor-in-Chief

Coimbatore tells you an incredible story of what man can do if he has the will and determination. All it needs is drive and energy.

From a small nondescript village by the turn of the 20th century, ravaged by plague and famine, it is now one of the biggest industrial cities in Tamil Nadu, known all over the country for its enterprise. Despite being derisively branded as “screwdriver culture”,and with hardly any raw material,it has  progressed so much that

its revenue is only next to Chennai. Its salubrious climate has made it one of the most sought-after locations even by the well-endowed senior citizens.

When you make a SWOT analysis, Coimbatore has several strengths to boast of --- excellent educational institutions producing thousands of well qualified youngsters in various disciplines including engineering and medicine. Its engineers adorn every major institution in the country. Its medical men have international status. It has phenomenal medical infrastructure that even the metropolitan cities like Mumbai would envy and sought -after even by people from abroad. Industry has been its pride for the past almost 100 years. Consequently, our hospitality sector has also been growing in leaps and bounds.

Still …

We can dream big as Kalam wanted us to.

After all it is Bharathi who dreamt of Independence -- ஆடுவோமே பள்ளு பாடுவோமே ஆனந்த சுதந்திரம் அடைந்துவிட்டோம் என்று -- almost three decades ahead of it becoming a reality.

We will also dream big like that.

Coimbatore has the potential not only to become a metropolis, even a mega polis.

Still ….

We, in Simplicity, firmly believe Coimbatore has the requisite ingredients for such an anticipated phenomenal growth, not only in terms of human resources but also intelligence, grit and determination. After all, our industries like pump sets, wetgrinders, etc. were born of adversity.

It was Annie Besant who said a city is a place where “citizens live”. This city has been expanding frenetically. Its population has also been growing rapidly.

But do we have a city fit for citizens to live?  Though this might hurt a few, because truth is always unpalatable, is this not a million dollar question worth cogitating?

Even after 70 years of Independence, don’t you think that we lack several basic things.

Water has been a perennial problem which is managed to an extent by the Siruvani and the Pilloor  schemes. But the Athikadavu-Avinashi project still remains a mirage. Exploitation of groundwater is alarming. The only river that we have, the Noyyal, has turned into a virtual Cooum. Once again the Siruthuli is born of such an adversity.

What is the price that we pay for accommodating so many industries? Pollution and concomitant diseases.

Even after exporting thousands of crores worth goods, our air connectivity, is far below par, to say the least.

Most of the trains do not terminate here.

Of course, our road connectivity is one of the best.

But how about civic infrstructure, both in terms of quantity and quality? Are they good and enough?

Several schemes are on paper

.

Coimbatoreans need much more and deserve much more.

We in SimpliCity will strive towards ensuring a better morrow for our children.

We will explore every sector and every avenue.

With a team, which has a blend of experience and youth, we will try to focus on your basic necessities.

We will take you into confidence and will respond to your grievances at the earliest.

We will offer you a bouquet of features.

We will provide you real-time news. It is not mere dissemination of news. It will be enlightening with solid evidence and the observations of who’s who of Coimbatore.

To sum up, we promise you that we will be your eyes and ears, to serve you better.

We are definitely a small media house but with multi-media features and reaching 6 lakh readers every week. And all this in a little more than a year!

But, we believe in the dictum “all rivers are born small and Rome is not built in a day”.

Our vision is for prosperity for posterity and happy, healthy and peaceful living..

This is our solemn pledge to Coimbatoreans.

For this, we earnestly solicit your support and much more than that, your feedback.

இடிப்பாரை இல்ல ஏமரா  மன்னன் கெடுப்பார்  இலானும் கெடும்

Ultimately, you are our masters as but for you we are not here.

Sincerely,

Sathyamoorthy Govindarajan
