Rescue Teams are searching the PAP Canal in Palladam for the third consecutive day for finding Sudhakar, who slipped into the canal in an accident on Saturday ( Oct 17).
On the 15th of October, Pradeep, Mariappan, Sudhakar, Anbalagan and Vijayan, employees of a private construction company were on their way back to Coimbatore after a holiday trip to Kodaikanal. As their car reached Kallipalayam junction near Palladam, their vehicle plunged into the PAP Canal as the driver might have lost control.
On receiving the information, the rescue team swung into action and retrieved the bodies of Pradeep, Vijayan and Mariappan except that of Sudhakar. They suspect that his body may have been carried away miles from the accident spot. Anbalagan who sustained severe injuries is presently under treatment.
Ot it could have got struck between the boulders in the canal. "At present, the gushing waters in the canal is hindering the rescue operations", they said..
Social Activist M. Muthaiah said "It's not the first time such an accident has taken place near the Kallipalayam bend. This area, especially during the night and wee hours, pose a serious threat to the motorists. We are planning to take up this issue with the National Highways department to install warning boards at the junction.
