District representatives from Aam Aadmi Party have urged the District Collector to initiate preventive measures to restore the depleting water bodies in the City and bring it back to its glory.

Citing the degradation of Valankulam, a prime water body in the city, the petitioners said "Permitting Aavin booths and tea shops to function along the banks of Valankulam has led to depositing of plastic and allied wastes on the bund".
While the city is experiencing increased cases of dengue, due to poor maintenance water bodies have become large breeding grounds for disease-spreading mosquitoes like aedes mosquito, pointed out the petitioners.
"Not just Valankulam, the city administration should act proactively to rejuvenate and restore all the water bodies in the region and initiate stern action against encroachers", the petition stressed.
