The City Police Commissionerate has issued a stern warning to those who cause damage to public and private properties by lighting crackers indiscriminately.
"Those who flout norms would be dealt with severely and a case would be registered against them, if they cause any damage to public property", the advisory said.
In a statement released here City Police Commissioner A.Amalraj has noted that the crackers should not be lighted between 10 pm and 6 am and lighting crackers near petrol bunks, educational institutions, electrical transformers and near easily inflammable articles and goods are deemed a punishable offence.
"The lighting of crackers near Highways and all crowded places and junctions is prohibited. Indiscriminate lighting crackers in a drunken state would be an offence inviting punishment and any damage to public property due to bursting of high decibel crackers would be considered an offence attracting a police case", the statement further said.
