Asst. Professor candidate petitions collector, alleges irregularities in appointment in Bharathiar University

Alleging irregularities in the appointment of Assistant Professor in Biotechnology Department of the Bharathiar University, one of the candidates has petitioned District collector T.N Hariharan to intervene and ensure justice.

According to Lakshmi Prabha, the aggrieved candidate, she has a post graduate qualification in Biotechnology from Bharathiar University After completing her course in 2011, she had applied for the post of Asst. Professor in the same department.

Alleging that rules were flouted in the appointment process to the post she said even though the seat was earmarked for SC category it could be filled up by candidates from other categories only when no application is received from any SC candidate. In such an eventuality, priority should be given for female candidates from other categories. However the University had flouted all norms and appointed a male member, even though, it was clearly mentioned in the rule book that priority should be given to female candidates.

Lakshmi Prabha alleged that her husband, who was working as a driver in Bharathiar University for 20 years, was also terminated without assigning any reasons by the University.

“The VC is threatening me to withdraw the court case and complaints to State and National Human Rights Commissions to take back my husband as a driver. The collector should intervene and facilitate my joining the university as a faculty member, “the petitioner said.
