Demanding streamlining of service conditions, over 100 contract workers deployed at the Coimbatore Medical college Hospital struck work today.
Over 1300 contract workers attached to a private agency, Padmavathi Medical Management Agency, are engaged by the hospital as security personnel and sanitary workers.
"While the salary is fixed at Rs.8, 200 (pm) for security staff, and Rs.8, 000 for sanitary workers, the EPF payment of Rs.1000 has not been remitted regularly as promised by the agency," the workers alleged.
While the workers could not avail of casual leave, huge salary deductions are made when they do so, the workers alleged .Demanding that pay slip, and list of official holidays and bonus benefits should be given in printed form to the workers, they said this would help resolve anomalies in service benefits accorded to them.
Following an assurance given by Assistant Resident Medical Officer Dr.Maheshwari that their grievances would be looked into, the striking workers called off the strike.
