Minister Radhakrishnan inspects rain-hit village

Heavy rains lashed Ponneri village near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district on Saturday.

Udumalai K.Radhakrishnan, Minister for Animal Husbandry, inspected the area today and instructed officials to clear the stagnant water in that village.

People in Ayyampalayam area in Ponneri village were affected severely by the stagnant water. This happened because the pond in the vicinity started overflowing into village.

“After 30 years we received heavy rainfall here. When the pond becomes full, houses are inundated. We cleared the water from houses but streets continue to remain swamped,” said a villager.

The Minister inspected the village for more than two hours and received petitions from the villagers.

“Bunds for the pond should be constructed to avoid recurrence of this type of issues. In this regard Rs 45 lakhs from the district fund will be released soon,” he told media persons.
