Broken sewage pipeline on Syrian Church road a menace

A broken sewage pipeline on the Syrian Church Road has become a menace to the residents and the motorists. For the past one week, hundreds of gallons of sewage has been leaking from the main pipeline leaving the entire stretch that falls under ward 25 (South zone) alarmingly unhygienic.

Of the two main drainage pipelines that run through the Syrian Church Road, one from RS Puram has been experiencing seepage. At present, the entire stretch of Syrian Church road is floating in sewage with unbearable foul smell emanating from that.

"A technical team from the Municipal Corporation is attending to the problem. But it is yet to be solved", laments a shop owner.

"The situation is extraordinarily bad and remains unattended as sewage gushes out from the broken pipeline non-stop creating new breeding grounds for aedes mosquitoes (dengue spreading mosquito)," a resident pointed out.

While the corporation has released a statement that fine will be imposed on residents for keeping their premises unclean and creating a breeding ground for aedes mosquito, such negligence by the city corporation provoke the citizens to question its promptness in attending to such a serious issue. "Is it not the paramount duty of the corporation to keep the sanitation standards of the city its top priority", they ask.

With the advent of northeast monsoon, expected any time soon, such drainage leaks are sure to worsen the water stagnation which in turn will trigger vector borne diseases.
