CMCH is considered as one of the hotspots for dengue

Hotspots are identified in city and steps are taken to control the spread of dengue. Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) is considered one of the hot spots because if a mosquito were to bite a dengue patient and bite another, there is a chance to transmit the dengue virus to the latter . Hence dengue patients are treated in a separate ward with fully covered mosquito net bed, according to R. Soundravel, Resident Medical officer, CMCH.

On Saturday 31 persons are undergoing treatment for dengue fever in special wards and 215 persons for normal fever in regular wards. The dengue affected include 15 men, 11 women, 3 boys and 2 girls. While 16 patients are from Coimbatore, 12 are from Tiruppur and one each from Thanjavur, Erode and the Nilgiris districts.

“These 215 persons admitted to CMCH for fever are undergoing various blood tests to diagnose what type of fever it is. After obtaining the results those affected from dengue or any other flu could be transferred to the special wards and we will monitor 24*7”, said the RMO.

To monitor the dengue patients in the hospitals, doctors are being deployed in three shifts. In case of any emergency they will alert the emergency ward and then patients will be shifted to that ward”, he added.

Private hospitals in the city are advised to be extremely careful while treating the dengue patients. The doctors in those hospitals are advised to conduct the blood test for the patients at the admission stage itself. If any of the patients come to the hospital with fever then it is recommended to conduct the NSI and IGM test to confirm the incidence of dengue, he said.

Considering the number of patients admitted to CMCH and private hospitals, the corporation health authorities are organizing the awareness campaign regularly.

“Nilavembu Kashayam is a supporting treatment for the dengue but that alone will not cure it”, said the doctor.
