At a meeting organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Coimbatore South candidate Amman Arjunan said that if elected he would take up with Chief Minister the airport expansion project. “We are ready to acquire land for the project. But, the Centre should give us funds,” he said. Many in the audience immediately asked the candidate why this was not done in the last five years. When Mr. Amman Arjunan completed his speech, the Chamber president D. Nandakumar said that the main hitch in the expansion project was the need to acquire 640 acres by the State Government.
The Centre had allocated the required funds and the acquisition should be completed.
