Young man held for obscene portrayal of city woman on social media

City cybercrime police arrested 36-year old Renganathan of Punjaipuliampatti in Erode district on charges of posting obscene portrayal of a former girlfriend on social media.

Police said Renganathan, who had befriended a 23-year old woman of Coimbatore through WhatsApp, had declared his love even though he was married.

In the meanwhile their friendship came to an abrupt end as the woman came to know of his marital status and duplicitous behaviour.

When his amorous advances were scorned by the woman. Renganathan, who had earlier obtained photos from her, used morphing technique to upload her obscene photos and forwarded the same to many of his contacts.

On the complaint of the victim to the Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj, Cybercrime police conducted an investigation and arrested Renganathan.

Inspector Mallika took up the investigation, which revealed that Renganthan had been in the habit of luring women using social media and had been in relationship with many women in the past too.

Police filed cases under five sections of IPC including abetting suicide and offending the modesty of women by obscene portrayal. The cell phone and the sim card used by the accused was also seized.
