Forest Department personnel are desperately trying to treat an elephant that collapsed in a farm near Karadimadai, on the outskirts of Coimbatore City. It is presumed to have entered the farm in a bid to raid the crops in the early hours on Saturday.
According to initial reports, the elephant, reported to be a female and a part of a three-member herd, was roaming in the vicinity on Friday night and had been spotted by locals for a few days. Locals also claim that the herd had been with two more elephants recently.

On Saturday morning, villagers found the elephant lying in a farm, almost a kilometre away from Reserve Forest of the Madukkarai Range. Word spread immediately and Forest Department personnel who arrived at the spot are trying to treat the animal.
However, approaching the animal had been difficult so far since the other members of the herd are not leaving the side of the sick elephant. Since the elephant is on a patta land, according to sources, the department would need the help of a kumki elephant to drive away the other elephants.
