Better International Air Connectivity is something the Coimbatoreans have been longing for as low connectivity to international destinations has been causing serious trade losses to this industrial city. The announcement by Air India of launching new flight service Delhi to Singapore via Coimbatore is definitely a huge relief to frequent air travellers.
Thanks to the concerted efforts of Kongu Global Forum led by Vanitha Mohan, President ICCI, this has become possible.
While the flight service between Delhi-Coimbatore and Coimbatore-Delhi (IX 165 DEL 1900 - 2200 CJB and IX 166 CJB 1405 - 1705 DEL) will be functional from 31st October, the service to Singapore will be operational from 18th November. The service will be operational three days a week - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
The DEL-CJB-SIN (Delhi-Coimbatore-Singapore) flight would leave at 7 pm from Delhi and reach Coimbatore by 10 pm. After a brief break, it will leave by 11 pm and reach Singapore by 6:30 am (Singapore timing). On it's return journey, the flight will reach Coimbatore by noon and will leave for Delhi by 2 pm.
"The take-off and landing timings at Delhi have been meticulously planned in such a way that Air India overseas passengers to US or Europe from Coimbatore can book through check-in thereby avoid the cumbersome task of check-in at Delhi Airport. Hence, the passengers will have to simply undergo the immigration formalities alone", says a statement from Kongu Global Forum.
'Kongu Global Forum' was formed with representatives from trade and industrial bodies from seven districts., Salem, Erode Namakkal, Karur, the Niligris, Tiruppur and Coimbatore. The forum strives to improve the national and international connectivity of Coimbatore International Airport which at present is very poor.
