Eeranenjam, a City NGO creates awareness on how drinking habit could rob Diwali celebrations for many families.


The social evil of drinking has robbed many families of its sustenance and happiness as the bread winner of the family often spends most of his income on liquor in TASMAC out lets.

During Diwali times, the diwali bonus of the employees gets spent on buying booze and liquor thus depriving the family members of their right to celebrate the festival of lights with the usual gaiety.

Eeranenjam, a volunteer based organization has took upon itself to create awareness on this vital social issue.

Conducting awareness programmes “ Nam Veedu, Num Pandigai” (our home, our festival) all over city through street skits the campaign creates awareness on how drinking habit of a family head could rob the family members of their Diwali celebrations, as all money is spent on buying liquor by the tipplers.



Mahendran, coordinator of Eeranenjam while speaking to Simplicity said that “often the Diwali bonus money given to employees don’t reach their homes, and is being spent on liquor. Thus depriving the children and wife in the family, new clothes, sweets and all sorts of celebrations.

“Awareness programme are conducted in Sivananda colony, Periyar nagar in vital junction to create awareness on the evils of drinking and it fall out in depriving the family members of celebrations, its effect on health, neighbor and society were also imparted through the skits” he said.

“Those who want to cure themselves of alcoholism can reach Eeranenjam and we will help them out “Mahendran said.
