M. Venkaiah Naidu, Vice President of India released two books titled "Minimally Invasive GI Surgery manual” written by Dr. C. Palanivelu and "Bariatric Surgery practice guide" edited by Dr. P.Praveen Raj at a function held at the Vice President’s residence at New Delhi.

The function was presided over by Dr. S.K.Mishra President of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) and Dr. Dilip Gode President-elect of the ASI.
Prof. C.Palanivelu Chairman of the Gem Hospital group, which is based in Coimbatore is one of the pioneers in laparoscopic surgery, well known for many new innovative techniques in laparoscopy. His techniques on minimally invasive treatment for GI cancers are well recognized throughout the world.
He has authored 8 textbooks on laparoscopic surgery, which have been translated Into Chinese, Korean and Spanish.
The latest book "Minimally Invasive GI Surgery manual" will be one at its kind focusing on step by step approaches to GI cancer surgeries. This book will be a useful guide for budding surgeons and also for senior laparoscopic surgeons who wish to upgrade themselves towards doing quality surgery.

Dr. Praveen Raj is the head of Department of bariatric surgery at Gem Hospital. Coimbatore. He is also the President of the International Excellence Federation for bariatric surgery, (India Chapter).

It’s important to note that bariatric surgery is now recognized as a rife saving procedure by the Central Government health scheme and the Chief Ministers Comprehensive health Insurance scheme of Tamilnadu, by which unaffordable patients can benefit from the procedure Tamilnadu is the first state in India to have included the same.
