Despite contingent measures taken by the civic administration, deaths due to dengue and viral fevers are on a stopped rise. This morning, Arundathi, a 13-year-old succumbed to fever in a private hospital in Avinashi Road.
Arundathi daughter of Gunasekaran and Shanthi hails from Dharapuram. It is reported that Arundathi (13) and her brother Nandan (11) were suffering from incessant fever for the past one week. Both the kids were undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Sadly, Arundathi's health failed to respond to the critical treatment and she succumbed to the illness.
It is to be noted that Arundathi's brother Nandan (11) who also was suffering from fever recovered well and presently back to normalcy. The death of a young girl has caused immense grief and panic among the people undergoing treatments for fever.
Though the Health Authorities report that dengue is under control. Deaths due to dengue and 'viral' fever has been claiming the lives of people. However, speculations are ripe that officials from CMCH and Health Department are understating the number of dengue deaths. While political parties also that dengue deaths are being manipulated as viral fever deaths and that the sanitation standards in the city are in a pathetic state.
