500 cadres including MLA Karthik arrested during protest against Corporation.

"When the Corporation is not functioning effectively, why levy additional taxes from people" questioned MLA N. Karthik at the all party protest demonstrated at the East Zone, Corporation Office in Singanallur.

This is the umpteenth time MLA Karthik along with other parties have showed their condemnation against the revised tax structures enforced by the City Corporation.

Reacting to their series of non-stop protests, City Corporation Commissioner, Dr.K. Vijayakarthikeyan through a press release has clarified that the protestors have been misinterpreting the revised tax structures as tax hikes and misleading the people.

Unconvinced with the explanations, the opposition parties led by the Singanallur Legislator, N. Karthik are on a protest spree against the City Corporation's tax imposition on garbage clearance and additional deposits for water connection. Among the allegations, the protestors also pointed out that in the recent months, the sanitation standards in the City have gone down drastically due to the inefficiency of the Corporation.

The protestors staged a sit-in-protest on the Trichy road following which they were arrested. Around 500 cadres of various political parties courted arrest.
