"Dengue Prevention Day" to be observed on every Thursday for mosquito eradication measures - District Collector T.N. Hariharan.

To contain the outbreak of dengue in Coimbatore city and rural areas all Thursdays in a month would be observed as “Dengue Prevention Day” and mosquito eradication measures would be undertaken by the sanitary staff of corporation, municipalities, and rural panchayats to prevent eradication of dengue, which has become a public helath challenge in recent months said District Collector T.N. Hariharan.



The mosquito eradication (Aedes aegypti or tiger mosquitoes) measures would be taken on Thursdays of every week, in schools, colleges, residential apartments, bus and railway stations and movie theatres and all places where people gather including markets.

Every Effort would be taken to engage the general public in  mosquito eradication drive and make it a  people’s movement. The members of public would be exhorted to lend hands in the clean up drives to be undertaken on Thursday of the week.



"NGOs, Traders bodies, Construction sector, youth and voluntary organizations would be roped in to do the vital duty of eradication dengue - causing mosquitoes. DBC workers would also  ensure that mosquito breeding is prevented at any cost by door to door sanitizing and fogging measures and all the public places would be cleaned up regularly to prevent mosquito breeding” the collector said.
