Vacant site of India Post gives way to 300 saplings

A 42 cent vacant site belonging to India Posts near Ondipudur is soon to become an eco hotspot after officials from the postal department planted around 300 saplings in the area here on recently.

The property which is currently in possession of the Postal Department was cleaned of wastes and other bushes by the department in collaboration with Lions Club of Coimbatore Royals as a part of the Green India Post initiative. Police personnel from the traffic wing of the City Police were also involved in the planting.

The area had earlier given space to unwanted wastes and hence was cleaned up before being planted with the saplings.

In order to make the area better, it was proposed to plant more saplings in the vacant site to help the environment.

According to A.N. Chandini Begum, Inspector of Posts of Coimbatore South Sub-Division, a team of officials headed by Saradha Sampath, Post Master General of Western Region along with Chitradevi, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices involved in planting the saplings around the campus.

“We have taken up this initiative of planting saplings in all the vacant sites belonging with the department and this work would benefit the environment and thereby the public in all possible ways,” added Chandini Begum.

They had earlier cleaned a 25 cent land near the Sidco Industrial Estate in Coimbatore in September. The area is to host close to 110 saplings.
