An application for parole made by sidelined AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala to visit her ailing husband in hospital has been rejected. But Sasikala is free to apply again, as her plea was rejected for the reason that it did not contain the requisite documents.
Bengaluru jail superintendent M Somashekar said on Tuesday that Sasikala's parole was rejected on the grounds that the medical certificate provided by her was not attested by a gazetted officer. Her counsel was asked to file a fresh application.
Sasikala had on Monday applied for 15-day parole to meet her ailing husband, who is awaiting a liver transplant at a Chennai hospital. Yesterday, a medical bulletin released by Gleneagles Global Hospital, where Natarajan is being treated, stated that he was in a critical condition.
The press release from the hospital read, "Currently, he (Natarajan) is admitted at the Liver Intensive Care Unit, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, under the team headed by Professor Mohamed Rela, with worsening liver failure, kidney failure and lung congestion and his condition remains critical.”
On September 10, Natarajan registered with the Tamil Nadu Organ Sharing Registry for deceased donor liver transplant.
Sasikala has been lodged in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara jail since February after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case. Along with Sasikala, her relatives Ilavarasi and V N Sudhakaran are also serving a four-year jail term.
