"Buy Khadi goods this festive season to support dying artisans" -District Collector

"People have to extend support to buy Khadi goods this festive season and support the rural artisans whose livelihood are very much dependent on it", said District Collector TN Hariharan on the 148th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. 

The District Collector along with other senior officials visited the Khadi sale points in the City and inaugurated the festive season sale, as a mark of tribute this Gandhi Jayanthi day. 



The Khadi sale points that function under the Rural Development Ministry under the National Rural Livelihood Mission has been promoting rural businesses and artisans. This festive season, the centres here in the city at RS Puram, Periyanaickenpalayam and the ones in Udumalpet, Pollachi, Kothagiri and Ooty will be offering special discounts upto 30% on specific products like Silk Sarees, Khadi and Polyester products. 



"Last year the sales target for the festive season was set as 1.69 crores, while this year a target of 1.52 crores has been estimated" said the District Collector who also has requested the people to visit the Khadi stores this festive season and lend their support to rural artisans.
