Agitated with the regular illegal sale of liquor in Madukkarai, youth from the panchayat handed over to the Police, men who had been indulged in the activity here on Friday.
According to one of the youths, ever since a Tasmac outlet was shut in the area some men started to sell liquor near the quarry and in some petty shops reportedly.
Even after repeated complaints from the people, no concrete actions were taken against the men and Madukkarai was boozing in illegal sale. Liquor was also sold at a higher rate compared with tasmac outlets.
On Friday, a group of youth from the vicinity rounded up the men near Quarry office and handed them over to the police. While one person was arrested upto 30 bottles were seized, they complained that the real culprits had escaped.
